Sangiran World Oldest Man Site

java manFossils of the first Java man (called Pithecanthropus erectus Java Soloiensis) who lived 1.6 to 1.2 millions years ago was found in central part of Java island (Sangiran region) by Dutch anthropologist, Eugene Dubois in 1891. This archaeological place and its surrounding area is UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site acknowledged in 1996 and well-known as Museum of Sangiran Early Man Site. Similar world oldest human fossils are famously located and recognized as Peking man and East African man.
